If you thought that explaining Santa isn’t real to your children was difficult, imagine having to explain to them that Mommy or Daddy was arrested and put in jail for doing something really bad, unable to come home for a certain number of hours or days. Young children in particular will not understand the concept of jail and bail, all they’re going to get from the conversation is that they won’t be seeing Mommy or Daddy for awhile. Older children may grasp the concept a little better, but that doesn’t mean figuring out how to explain it is any easier.
Hopefully, what you can do is get a bail bond for your loved one and get them out of jail within a few hours (at most) and back home with the whole family. This will help your judgment on how much, what, and when you divulge your partner’s jail situation to the kids.
Don’t make your loved one sit in jail any longer; don’t make your children wonder where their parent is any longer.
